PSA from Grauegewehr: Name your goddamn fucking screenshots. Seriously, it takes 1 second.
Not so much a PSA as a peeve of mine. First of all, I’m talking about when people take a screenshot and upload it directly to SL, thus giving it the filename “Screenshot: [parcel name], [sim name], [coordinates].”
Okay listen. You upload screenshots as an investment so you can relive sweet memories later on, right? Well guess what makes it 50 times harder to find the screenshot weeks, months, or years after you take them. That’s right, keeping the default screenshot name. Unless you’re a savant and can remember the location of every fun or interesting moment you’ve had in SL. If you’re not a savant, finding it again after you forget where it was taken (sometimes not even that, sometimes it’s just the 50th screenshot you’ve taken in the same place), you have to spend several minutes tediously digging through huge stacks of files named damn near the same thing.
OR ALTERNATIVELY, you could just spend a couple of seconds to give the screenshot a name you can remember. Something like “Ace crossdressing and smoking.” Which in turn would save you from a nightmare in the future if you wanna relive that memory.
Another situation: Someone distributes a default-named screenshot among 5 people. One of those 5 people is me, and because default screenshot names make me pissy, I rename it. Weeks later, another person of those 5 asks me about that time when we took that screenshot. I can find mine, but I can’t help her, because it’s not named the same thing. So the best thing to do is to give her a copy of mine so she has two of the same thing with different names in her inventory.
tl;dr: Naming screenshots (something that’s not the default name) isn’t hard, and it saves you from a hair-pulling situation if you wanna find it later on when you forget the filename. JUST FUCKING DO IT, SHEESH
Another controversial point about Second Life is the notion that users can be potentially mentally addicted to the game. There are many different posts on a variety of different forums with relating posts of users being addicted to Second Life, from all age groups. Games such as Second Life may facilitate escapism, which may exacerbate pre-existing addictive tendencies. While large groups of people[who?] believe that children are most at risk to this level of addiction, adults have been found to have the most severe cases. As well as the Second Life forum having posts related to users being addictive and asking for advice, several other PC-related forums have users asking about addiction and second life whether its regarding them or a friend or family member. These posts are often answered by previously addicted users.
For those who didn’t hear, the SLW formalwear party didn’t have good turnout, so it was rescheduled to next week. But for those like me who waited all week to have good times on SL, I’m hosting a party. The sim name is Inaka. There’s lots of awesome shit to do there, so you better get your sweet succulent buttcheeks over there if you wanna have a good time. Just sayin.
